OlyGrrrl au Natural

Of all of the OlyGrrrl varietals the OlyGrrrl au Natural is perhaps the easiest to spot. If her long dreadlocks don’t give her away immediately, the ankle-length hippie skirt, piercings, unshaven legs and underarms and combat boots will help you recognize her. There will be a whiff of patchouli mingled with her own natural brand of perfume as she walks by.

The mantra of the OlyGrrrl au Natural is ‘Love your mother (earth)’. A free spirit, her home (if she has a permanent one) is co-housing or a bus parked on someone’s property on the West Side. Her news source is Democracy Now! and she probably enjoys listening to Scatterlings of Africa and the Polynesian Hour on KAOS. She is most definitely a wanderer, likely hailing from somewhere else originally. The open and communal atmosphere, the beautiful natural surroundings and the great hiking drew her to feel at home in Oly more than any other place at the moment.

Like all strong and soft-hearted OlyGrrrl’s she choose her life deliberately. In fact, she has probably chosen a name which she feels more aptly describes her. Something like Star, Willow, Moon or Pixie. Also a loving and wonderful mother if and when she becomes one, her children will have long hair, hand-made clothes, a happy smile and feel perfectly content to run naked in the yard on a warm summer day.

She and other OlyGrrrl’s like her are the one’s who bring a liberal, global and accepting atmosphere to Oly. A flavor that balances out the RepublicOlyan attitude on the Capitol Campus, making this little city a livable, colorful place to be.

What’s in her kitchen: Cast Iron and mason jars. Herbs, both drying and fresh will fill the air with an earthy scent mingling with the sharp, acrid smell of lentils and curry.

Mates: The OlyGrrrl au Natural has a warm and welcoming personality and attracts men who are sweet, sensitive and spiritual. They definitely have a ‘type’ of man. He will most likely be bearded, naturally scented and vegetarian. He is an animal lover and probably has a dog as well as chickens, rabbits and other farm animals. Even though she may have only one life partner, it is possible that they have an open relationship. She might even be a switch-hitter. Love comes in many forms for her.

Sports and Hobbies: Urban farming, hiking, camping and social protest.

Transportation: Public transportation, bike, walking, hitch-hiking, old beat-up Datsun pick-up truck.

Vices: Marijuana – definitely, wine and beer – only if it”s homemade, coffee and tea – only if it’s fair trade.

Hot Spots: Traditions, West Side Co-Op, The HippyHouse

Favorite Meal: Homemade Granola
